Here at Home-Start we are very happy to have secured a small pot of funding from ‘One Community’ to enhance our support for families with their children around school readiness.
The support we will offer will be aimed at children aged between 2 – 3 years old. We hope to be able to assist parents in educating their children around basic requirements for school readiness. We will also be utilising the money to purchase school readiness packs for families. These will include books, crayons and pencils, toothbrushes and other items that young children need to enhance their social, emotional and physical abilities.
With this in mind, our co-ordinator team are preparing some training around school readiness and inviting volunteers to 2 x 5 hour training sessions in September.
Watch this space for the training dates. We look forward to having a couple of good training sessions prepared for September.
Home-Start UK have been successful in a partnership with British Red Cross, funded by the Co-op to tackle loneliness and social isolation in young new mums and secured funding that was available for local Home-Start schemes to bid for.
Home-Start Kirklees bid for funding to establish a new toddler group for young parents up to 25 years and their children. The new group will start Tuesday 11th September at Crow Nest Park, Dewsbury and will be available to young mums referred to our service who are struggling with social isolation and need an opportunity to make contact with other young mums and make friendships. The group will also focus on advising parents on eligibility for free early education places for 2 year olds and school readiness. The new group will also be opened up to all our young mums that have been attending our group support for under 20’s so that they can continue to support each other and further extend their own friendships.
